EarthSpirit was founded in 1980, with the goal of helping to create an active Pagan community in New England. This having been achieved, EarthSpirit has turned its primary focus toward work to help develop Pagan concepts and attitudes for living in the present age, to encourage communication and understanding among people of different traditions and ideologies, to provide opportunities for shared spiritual experience, and to help educate the general public concerning Earth-centered spirituality.

The Pagan Federation publishes a quarterly journal, Pagan Dawn (formerly The Wiccan, founded in 1968), and other publications. An annual conference is held at the end of each November and there are regional gatherings throughout the year.
